WHO IS READING YOUR EMAILS?
Aren’t All Email And Text Messages Already Safe?
All standard text messages and wireless emails are sent in what’s know as “plain text” as it travels thru a wireless carrier’s infrastructure (text messages) or throughout the internet’s relays and servers (email messages) to the intended recipient. “Plain text” messages can be read or reviewed by anyone with the right training and knowledge of where to look. In addition, all wireless providers are required by law to maintain detailed copies of every text message sent or received thru their infrastructure. All Security experts acknowledge that both email and text messages are unsafe and non-secure methods of communicating. YourMailSafe’s Encrypted BlackBerry’s protect all emails sent and received against those threats.
How It Works
The advanced encryption software encrypts email messages on the sender’s device, and sends it encrypted throughout its path, until it is received by the recipients device. The message is then decrypted only when the recipient opens the message and enters his unique passphrase.
The advanced encryption software works automatically and determines which email messages will be encrypted. Only emails between an YMS device to another YMS device are encrypted. All other emails sent from the device are sent as regular “plain text” email which allows the recipient to read the message (including emails sent to Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo email accounts for example). When sending an email from a YMS device to another YMS device, the advanced encryption software will “recognize” the recipients email address as having a public key and use it change the email message into cipher text (scrambled and unreadable characters), and then send it out. The message can only be retrieved and read when the recipient enters his unique individual passphrase. (Note: YMS service does not encrypt text messages- only emails)
How Encryption Works
Encryption software programs use algorithms or complex mathematical processes, to scramble and unscramble ("encrypt" and "decrypt") data. Algorithms work through the creation of keys, which are specific strings of data used for encryption. An encryption algorithm scrambles data by combining the bits in the key with the data bits; in decryption, the algorithm unscrambles data by separating the data bits from the key bits.
Who can read my encrypted emails?
No one without physical access to the device and knowledge of the unique password created by the end-user can read any message that has been encrypted on a YourMailSafe BlackBerry.
What if I lose my device?
In the event the device is lost or misplaced, your information is still protected. Upon the owner’s request, the device can be remotely “wiped” via wireless signal, which will automatically and permanently erase the device’s contacts and emails.
